UT Dallas Ultimate 101 Tournament Slideshow

More Night Photography, More Practice

I cannot wait for this weekend so I can actually shoot massive amounts of action shots in daylight at Ultimate 101. I was so excited that I thought today was Tuesday and since my 11:30 class was canceled I was going to go to noongang to wet my beak at some daylight ultimate shooting.

In the mean time, here are some more pics from various practices that I liked. I've been playing around with shutter speeds to increase quality while maintaining as sharp a focus as possible. It works sometimes, sometimes it doesn't.

Action Photography At Night With Mixed Results

I've been taking a ton of pictures lately, but it takes so long to sift through the 300 or so pictures I take a night at practice, but these are some of the ones I liked the best from practice last Thursday night. The guy with the big hair is Jimmy. He's kind of a friggin' hoss. My plan is to go buy a cheaply old tuxedo and have him play in it either out at practice or for at least a game or two out at the tournament. It really depends on how hot it'll be out there.

Shooting at night and action can be two very scary monsters on their own, but combine them and you get some fairly hit or miss results. I think th biggest problem I've had has been with white balance. While I've been shooting at anywhere from ISO 800 to 3200, getting the most consistent results at 1600 with speeds usually running from 1/250 to 1/60 of a second, I have been letting the camera detect the white balance on its own which has led to a few series of images being inconsistent due to a big field light being in the background mid-action. I'll have to do something about this next time.

Playing Games By The Pool

I had such a hard time figuring out something to do for "identity" so I figured I'd start with the identity of the frisbee group. Laura, Kevin and Steve decided to go chill at the pool between football games and I thought that would make for some interesting pictures. Here they are.
